Why EH Planning

At the City of Sydney, heritage matters were part of everyday assessment. Ethan understands how heritage officers review proposals and what they need to see before they can support change.

How it works

The process.

  1. 01

    Understand significance

We identify the listing, the conservation area and what makes the place significant.

  2. 02

    Shape the design

We advise on scale, form and materials before the plans are settled.

  3. 03

    Document

The SEE and heritage material are prepared and coordinated as one consistent case.

  4. 04

    Negotiate

We respond to heritage referrals and work through any design changes with council.

Questions

Frequently asked.

How do I know if my property is heritage listed?

Check Schedule 5 of your council's LEP and the heritage map, or the planning certificate for the property. A heritage conservation area is different to an individually listed item, and the controls differ.

Do I need a Heritage Impact Statement?

Councils commonly require one for works to a heritage item, and often for significant works in a conservation area. We advise whether one is needed and coordinate a qualified heritage consultant where it is.

Can I demolish a building in a conservation area?

It may be possible, but demolition in a conservation area needs consent and councils look closely at the contribution the building makes to the area. Early advice is essential.
